Who I am
My name is Mike and as a retired Civil Engineer I seek scientific explanations for everything.
An epiphany
Recently I had an epiphany (a sudden life changing moment). It was a meeting with the Holy Spirit.
I have changed
As a result, my attitude and appreciation of religion changed. This gave me new meaning to life.
Why a blog?
I am writing this blog to provide comment on life and human interaction. I hope it will bring you inner peace.
In Christianity, and in the Holy Bible, the Holy Spirit emanates from God the Father. It also emanates from Jesus (Christ), the son of God. It is a part of what is known as the Holy Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit). If you don’t believe in such things that’s alright. There is still much to learn about human interaction.

My belief in science
I am a retired Civil Engineer who did not think much about religion or religious belief. As a perfectionist I would analyse to excess and needed a scientific explanation for everything. My life was fairly simple and I did the things that I loved to do.
I was most interested in photography and studied it extensively. Although it is a visual art I was more focused on absorbing its technical aspects. Despite that I appreciated the visual impact of great photography. The beauty and drama seen in nature, and the pathos and humour seen in human interaction.
My primary focus on technicalities showed that I was more analytical and logical rather than being creative and intuitive. It was for this reason that I never thought I would develop a website like this one. Religion was not something that concerned me that much. I was not brought up in a strongly religious home and only went to church for weddings and funerals.
New found religious belief
I have always found human relationships and psychology of interest. So trying to understand why people behave in a particular way has been a lifetime study. That is, a study in the classroom of life. Of course, we all study this and it often seems that there is no rationality to it at all.
It can be hard to understand someone else or to accept their views. That is usually because they think differently to us or have conflicting opinions.
After a whole lifetime of confusion and a range of human emotions I had an epiphany (a sudden life-changing realisation). It was a very spiritual moment that brought all my life experience into clearer focus. It helped me to find my true self and to realise what I was meant to achieve in my life. I have described this on the epiphany page of this site.
As a result of this I became a new person and my wife tells me, a better person. I am no longer interested in the technical things that interested me before. Now my greatest wish is to help others less fortunate than myself. This is a new appreciation of what is really important in life. It is no longer about me and this has brought me inner peace.
Most of these changes were not part of a gradual thoughtful process. They were immediate. So I am now convinced that Christian faith is justified and has real meaning.
Taking a balanced approach
To help you gain something from reading this blog I will clearly be adding more posts than this one. After all that’s what a “blog-site” happens to be. This is the lead into my first post and I have many topics that I wish to cover.
I hope to make you think about the relevance of scientific research and human psychology. Also, I will occasionally reference the Holy Bible to take as broad a view as possible.
The bible is a collection of 66 books. These were written at different times, for different reasons and in a range of literary styles. The Old Testament was written centuries before the birth of Jesus Christ. The New Testament was written after his birth. The bible tells many truths and is said to have been inspired by God and the teachings of Jesus.
Much of what I will say is influenced by my life experience rather than by the bible. Religion was not drummed into me as a child. I am only now in the process of reading the bible and have been thinking a lot about religious belief. I am amazed that much of my life experience is aligned with biblical teaching.
Please read this blog with an open mind. It will make you think about your own life and your relationships with others. The blog is written with good intentions. A hope to change your life for the better.
I have found an amazing sense of peace and want to take you through a similar process of discovery.
Our thoughts, emotions, science and religion
We are all different but can all find that same peace. In leading you through that process I hope to deal with topics like those in the below list.

- The impact of our personal environment
- Our comfort zone
- Our self-image
- What things we notice and find important
- Our drive and commitment
- Dealing with failure

- Identifying the common thread
- The broad message contained in the Bible

I am open to suggestions on these topics but let’s see how things develop. I would love to have your comments on each of my blogs. Also, I am interested in any similar experiences that you have had.
